Clover fire in Shasta County burns 68 homes, is 100% contained
The Clover fire in Northern California’s Shasta County was fully contained over the weekend, but it left a scorched path behind it, burning down 68 homes and damaging five others.
The fire started Sept. 9 about 10 miles from Redding, according to information posted online by Cal Fire. It grew quickly because of strong winds and dry conditions, officials said.
The cause of the fire, which burned more than 12.5 square miles, remains under investigation.
Also under investigation are the charred remains of 56-year-old Brian Stanley Henry. He was found dead while authorities were conducting a welfare check on Coal Pit Road, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said last week.
A total of 68 homes and 128 outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze, Cal Fire said, and five homes and 10 outbuildings were damaged.
Mandatory evacuations in communities including Happy Valley, Igo, Cotton Wood and other areas in Shasta County have been lifted.
