Deputies, LAPD respond after girl reported missing on Metro line
Dozens of law enforcement officers from two agencies responded Monday night to a report of 3-year-old girl who was missing on a Metro train line.
Authorities said the incident began after 8 p.m. at the Pico Station downtown when a man claiming to be a father flagged down Los Angeles Police Department officers and said that he got off the Expo Line but couldn’t find his daughter who had been with him.
Officers tried to catch up with the train, but it had left the station. The man claiming to be the father also disappeared, said Lt. Barry Shapiro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department transit unit.
Deputies searched trains along both the Blue and Expo lines, Shapiro said, but they were unable to find a child riding alone.
Shortly after 9 p.m., both the Police and Sheriff’s departments decided to call off their searches.
“We’re not even certain it was a legitimate call,” LAPD Det. Gus Villanueva told The Times.
