Hikers reported missing in Eaton Canyon are found unharmed
A group of hikers reported missing in Altadena’s Eaton Canyon on Friday morning were found unharmed and unaware anyone was looking for them, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department official said.
The group of five hikers in their 20s headed into the Angeles National Forest canyon near Pasadena about 8 a.m. Thursday expecting to return by 4 p.m. that afternoon, said Sgt. Booker Hollis.
But somewhere along the hike, the hikers decided to camp for the night. They were prepared with food and water, Hollis said.
However, they “just didn’t bother to tell anybody” about the change of plans, and at 6:45 a.m. Friday, a panicked parent called police.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department sent out a helicopter and search and rescue team and found the hikers. The search was called off and the hikers’ parents can breathe easy.
“I’m sure they’ll have some explaining to do,” Hollis said with a chuckle.
