Firefighters battle blaze that chars 3 acres in Claremont
Firefighters were launching an aggressive air and ground attack Wednesday afternoon after a brush broke out in Claremont and had burned about three acres.
The fire was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. near East Foothill Boulevard and North Dartmouth Avenue, not far from the Claremont Colleges, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. The blaze was called the Foothill fire.
Fire engines were being positioned around nearby houses in case flames approached, a department spokesman said.
Crews on the ground were being aided by two SuperScooper aircraft and at least two water-dropping helicopters.
No other details were immediately available.
