Crime on rye: Four accused of stealing $10 sandwich from car
Four men -- presumably very hungry men -- have been arrested in Newport Beach on suspicion of breaking into a car and stealing a sandwich.
A $10 sandwich.
The locked car was parked on Newport Center Drive when a man approached the vehicle around dinnertime Sunday, let himself into the car by reaching through a partially lowered window and scooped up the sandwich, a witness told police.
The suspected sandwich thief then jumped into a waiting car with three other men, police reported.
Armed with a license plate number, officers pulled over the suspected getaway car at the corner of Bayside Drive and East Coast Highway and arrested Oscar Iglesias, 25, of South Gate, Daniel Godinez, 23, and Edwin Yhuit, 27, both of Cudahy, and Daniel Garcia, 28, of Chula Vista.
All four were booked on suspicion of vehicle burglary and conspiracy, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.
No word on what kind of a sandwich was allegedly swiped, or whether it was booked into evidence.
