A 23-year-old La Cañada Flintridge man who apparently had been walking across the northbound 2 Freeway in Glendale early Sunday was killed when he was struck by two cars, the California Highway Patrol said.

In a news release, the CHP said that around 5:25 a.m., officers received a call from a male driver who said he had struck a man walking across the freeway just north of Fern Lane.

The release said the pedestrian “went into the windshield” of the driver’s Honda Accord after being hit, causing injuries to the face of the driver and “major” injuries to the pedestrian.

CHP officers responding to the scene were told that a 2012 Hyundai Elantra also hit the pedestrian immediately after the initial strike, the release said.

Both the pedestrian and the driver of the Honda were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at about 8 a.m., CHP Officer Monica Posada said.

The pedestrian was not identified by the CHP, and a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County coroner said the fatality had not yet been reported to that office.

Authorities listed the injuries sustained by the driver of the Honda as “moderate.” The driver of the Hyundai did not sustain injuries, the release said.
