Lohan tells Letterman rehab will be a ‘blessing’
Lindsay Lohan told David Letterman during an appearance on his CBS show Tuesday that her upcoming three-month stay in rehab is a blessing, not a curse.
Lohan, 26, is being required to spend 90 days in rehab without leaving as part of her sentence for lying to Santa Monica Police about who was driving a Porsche on Pacific Coast Highway that collided a truck. She cannot leave the rehab facility during her stint.
Letterman bluntly asked the actress, “Aren’t you supposed to be in rehab now?”

Lohan replied, “Do you not watch anything that goes on? May 2.”
Letterman asked the actress how many times she’s been in rehab, to which she responded, “Several.”
Lohan quickly noted that this was not part of the pre-interview for her appearance on the show regarding her new movie “Scary Movie 5.”
But she then explained her feelings: “I’m the happiest when I’m working, and the healthiest; and I think [rehab] is an opportunity for me to, you know, focus on what I love in life.
“And I don’t think it’s a bad thing,” she said. “I think it’s a blessing… and not a curse.”
On “Late Show with David Letterman,” the host asked in frank questioning whether Lohan has “addiction problems.”
She replied that Letterman sounded like Dr. Phil.
An L.A. judge last month sentenced the actress to serve a 90-day stint in a drug rehabilitation facility, directed her not to leave the facility for any reason and said there would be no passes of any kind that allow her to leave the grounds.
The facility does not have to be locked, but the judge made clear that Lohan would violate her probation if she left at any time. Officials will be monitoring her progress.
Lohan reported to the Santa Monica Police Department and got her latest mug shot taken Tuesday after her no-contest plea a day earlier to misdemeanor charges stemming from a crash on Pacific Coast Highway.
Surrendering to police -- though she was not held -- was part of the process of following through on the plea deal.
The booking was largely a formality after the judge sentenced Lohan to five days in jail as part of a plea agreement; the time will be served as part of her rehab stint.
The “Mean Girls” star avoided jail in a last-minute deal by pleading no contest to misdemeanor reckless driving and providing false information to police.
A charge of willfully resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer was dismissed. In addition to spending 90 days in rehab, she must also spend 18 months in psychotherapy and serve 30 days of community service.
In pleading no contest, Lohan admitted she had violated her probation in a 2011 shoplifting case.
After the sentencing, her attorney Mark Heller said, “I’m very confident that you won’t be seeing Lindsay Lohan in any criminal courts any time in the future.”
He added: “She has fully recognized all of the issues that have to be addressed, and I’m very confident she’ll be able to move forward in her life with dignity, pride and respect.”
