Motorist saw vicious pit bulls kill woman walking on street

Authorities were alerted to an Antelope Valley woman walking in Littlerock being mauled to death Thursday by a pack of pit bulls when a passing motorist saw the vicious attack, officials said.

The 63-year-old woman was walking when she was mauled by the four dogs. Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Parker said a passing motorist saw the dogs attacking the woman, who was on the ground, and immediately dialed 911.

Deputies shortly after 9:30 a.m. responded to Avenue S between 110th Street East and 113th Street East to a report of four vicious pit bulls.

The first deputy at the scene found the woman on the ground and saw a dog. The deputy began chasing the dog when it then turned on him. Parker said the deputy fired a shot toward the dog and it ran. The deputy then followed the dog, according to Parker. But the dog again became aggressive and turned on him so he discharged another shot to protect himself from the animal, Parker said. The dog eventually fled into the desert off Avenue S.

Parker said the dogs remained on the loose Thursday afternoon. L.A. County Sheriff’s Department deputies were going door to door warning people to stay away from the area, Parker said. They were also trying to determine who the dogs belonged to, he said.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital by paramedics but she died en route.
