Phony music exec sentenced; lured sex assault victim on Craigslist

An Arkansas man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman in Glendale after she responded to his job posting for a personal assistant on Craigslist, the Glendale News-Press reported.

Garry Dwayne Boga, 27, pleaded no contest Tuesday to one felony count of sexual penetration by a foreign object and was immediately sentenced to state prison, according to Shiara Dávila-Morales, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Police believe Boga was targeting young Midwestern women who moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of breaking into the entertainment industry.

Boga, who has a 2007 conviction for robbery, was arrested in March after the woman, who is from Illinois, reported the sexual assault to Glendale police.

Boga claimed he was in the music industry and needed an assistant, when he was actually homeless. The woman who responded to the ad had just moved to Hollywood, according to police.

She and Boga agreed to meet March 13 at the Capitol Records building in Hollywood, which police said was a move he used to bolster his scheme.

When the woman arrived, Boga was parked outside the building and called her from his cellphone claiming to be running late for another appointment.

He then told the woman he could interview her in his car as he headed to his next appointment, police said.

She agreed. Boga then proceeded to an apartment in Glendale, where he told her she needed to undergo a pre-employment medical exam, police said.

Boga was then able to convince the woman that he was a medical professional as he sexually assaulted her, police said. After the assault, Boga dropped her off in Hollywood.
