Authorities are continuing to investigate a shooting involving a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy and four men in Pico Rivera, they said Monday.

Two deputies were patrolling southbound on Rosemead Boulevard near Shenandoah Street about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when they approached a man they saw spray-painting a wall, sheriff’s department officials said.

When the man saw the deputies, he got into a car with three other people and drove toward one of the deputies, who then shot at the approaching vehicle, officials said.

One man in the car was wounded in the upper body and was listed in critical condition at a hospital, and another was cut by broken glass.

All four men in the vehicle were detained for questioning. The sheriff’s deputies were uninjured.
