South San Gabriel woman’s shooting probed as botched murder-suicide
A shooting that left a woman dead and a man injured Sunday morning in South San Gabriel is being investigated as a murder and attempted suicide, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The shooting occurred Sunday morning in the 8100 block of Celito Drive, said Sgt. Michael Thomas of the sheriff’s department. Sheriff’s deputies found a couple with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the home, according to the department.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was unknown, Thomas said.
The couple, both in their early 20s, had a 2-year-old son together and were separated, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. No children were believed to be inside the home at the time of the shooting, the Tribune reported.
The couple attended a birthday party in Montebello for their son the night before the incident, the Tribune said. Deputies believe the man was responsible for the shooting, the paper reported.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s detectives at (323) 890-5500.
