Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon after a sport-utility vehicle plowed into a pizza parlor in Simi Valley, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of Tapo Canyon Road, according to Capt. Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department.

A white Ford Expedition careened into Ameci Pizza & Pasta, shattering the glass windows and coming to a halt near the restaurant’s front counter.

The male driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and a male restaurant employee had moderate injuries, Lindbery said. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Building inspectors were called to assess the strip mall to determine whether the crash had left the building unstable or unsafe, Lindbery said.
