Man takes selfie, then steals iPhone at Huntington Beach AT&T store, police say

A man who snapped a selfie using an iPhone at a Huntington Beach cellphone store is believed to be the person who stole the phone Sunday evening, authorities said.

The man arrived at the AT&T store at 8162 Talbert Ave. about 6:30 p.m. and began looking at a display iPhone 6S, police said in a Facebook post.

He then asked a store employee for the phone’s passcode so he could see its features. The employee told police he saw the man take a photo of himself, yank the phone from the wall when the employee wasn’t looking, run out of the store and take off in a blue Ford Focus, the report said.

The man’s photograph was uploaded to the phone company’s iCloud account, which is Apple’s cloud storage platform that backs up photos and other documents.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Huntington Beach Police information hotline at (714) 375-5066.
