2 suspects wounded in deputy-involved shooting near Duarte
Two men were wounded early Sunday in a deputy-involved shooting in the San Gabriel Valley, authorities said.
The incident began in Duarte shortly after 1 a.m. after deputies spotted a man with a gun near the intersection of Ivory Drive and Galen Street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Carmen Arballo. The man got in a car and a pursuit ensued, she said.
The chase lasted less than a minute before the suspect’s vehicle crashed near the 2400 block of South El Toro Road in an unincorporated area near Duarte, Arballo said. One of the two men inside the car then allegedly brandished a gun at the deputies, she said, resulting in the shooting.
The two suspects suffered what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Jorge Marchena. Their names have not been released.
No deputies were injured, Arballo said. It was not immediately clear how many fired their weapons.
A weapon believed to be a suspect’s was recovered at the scene, Arballo said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
