Man suspected of killing mom’s boyfriend, hiding body in freezer

A Ventura man is in custody Thursday, suspected of killing his mother’s boyfriend and hiding the body in a freezer for two years at a public storage facility.

The body of 60-year-old Jeffrey Korber was found in a storage unit at Ventura Mini Storage in June, inside of a working freezer, according to Ventura police commander Darin Schindler. The coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Family members of Korber in Laguna Beach, after they had failed to hear from him for a few months, had reported him missing in July 2011. Laguna Beach police conducted a missing persons investigation of Korber, described as a frequent traveler, but closed the case in 2012 after finding no signs of foul play.

Ventura homicide detectives determined that Korber had been living with 66-year-old Mary Hannan at the time of his death. Hannan’s son, Michael Bresnak, 49, is suspected of killing Korber in 2011 and, with Hannan’s assistance, storing the body in the freezer, according to Schindler.

Bresnak is currently in custody in Ventura County Jail on a parole violation. Hannan has not yet been arrested or charged in the case. No motive for the killing was provided.
