A West Hollywood hotel was evacuated Sunday night after a suspicious package was found on the premises, leading sheriff’s deputies to close nearby streets to traffic.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a call about the package at the Grafton on Sunset hotel at 7:12 p.m., and the arson/explosives unit was dispatched, Lt. William Nash said.

The package, found in the lobby or near the hotel entrance, “caught management’s attention,” he said.

“It looked out of place.”

The hotel is located on Sunset Boulevard, just east of La Cienega Boulevard. Northbound La Cienega was closed at Fountain Avenue, and Sunset was closed from La Cienega west to Sunset Plaza.

Nash said hotel management decided to evacuate the hotel’s approximately 50 guests.

The hotel’s website says that “each of our 104 chambers of decadence is appointed with modern amenities that offer contemporary comforts for the ultimate in Hollywood hedonism.”
