High temperatures set records, more heat on the way

Yes, it was that hot Sunday.

The scorching temperatures set records at three Los Angeles County weather stations Sunday, topping out at 103 degrees at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport. The old record there, 100 degrees, was set in 1976.

In the High Desert, Lancaster had a reading of 98, breaking by one degree the old record, set in 1996.

And in the mountains on the Grapevine, the weather station at Sandberg recorded a temperature of 91. That smashed the old record of 83 set in 2012.

In all, there were nine stations in the county with readings of 100 or higher: Van Nuys, 105; Burbank, 103; Woodland Hills, 103; Chatsworth, 102; Northridge, 101; Saugus, 101; the Newhall Pass, 101; Santa Fe Dam, 103; and Topanga, 102.

Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service said there’s more of the same on the way Monday, with a slight break arriving Tuesday from a low-pressure system approaching from the north.

In Pasadena it will be 97 on Monday, dropping to 89 on Tuesday and 81 on Wednesday, Seto said.
