L.A.-area airports on higher alert after Boston Marathon blasts
Law enforcement authorities are beefing up security across Southern California in the wake of Monday’s explosions at the Boston Marathon.
At Los Angeles International Airport officials are increasing checkpoints at entrances and where crowds gather. More bomb-sniffing dogs will be on patrol inside and outside the airport.
The Los Angeles Police Department is increasing security at Dodger games. Orange County officials plan more patrols at sporting and entertainment events.

Two explosions rocked the finish line area of the Boston Marathon, killing two people and injuring dozens, according to the city’s police Twitter account.
Bob Hope Airport spokesman Victor Gill said security had been increased “and that’s really all I can say about it until more is known.”
“We are aware of [the Boston Marathon explosions] and our police department has increased security until the nature of those events is known,” he said.
In Los Angeles County, the sheriff’s department plans to increase patrols to “create a more visible presence where people congregate, such as government buildings, shopping centers, athletic events, and public transit,” Sheriff Lee Baca said in a statement.
There was no immediate explanation of the cause of the explosions in Boston near the marathon’s finish line. Boston police had reportedly identified other explosive devices and detonated one of them in a controlled explosion.
