Woman dies in car on 101 Freeway, apparently from an overdose
Traffic was temporarily snarled Sunday on the 101 Freeway in Van Nuys after a woman stopped her car on the freeway, distraught that her companion had died in the passenger seat.
About 8:50 a.m., a California Highway Patrol officer spotted a black Toyota Yaris stopped on the northbound 101 at the 405 exit ramp, said LAPD spokesperson Stacy Ball.
The passenger, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, apparently the result of a prescription drug overdose, Ball said. She said empty prescription medication bottles were found in the car.
The distressed driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
