One man killed, another injured in Westmont shooting
Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting Wednesday evening that killed one man and injured another in the 8800 block of South Vermont Avenue in Westmont.
The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. near the 88th Street Temple Church. Both of the victims were taken to a hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The other man is expected to survive, said Capt. Eli Vera with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The names of the men have not been released.
HOMICIDE REPORT: Tracking killings in L.A. County
This is the second homicide in the Westmont neighborhood this year. About a mile and a half south on Vermont, Robert Brewer, 21, was killed on Jan. 23.
Since 2007, the neighborhood has seen 102 homicides, according to the Homicide Report. In a county of 10 million people, this unincorporated area is among the deadliest places to live, according to an analysis of homicide data.
Westmont’s rate of killings was the highest overall, data show.
