Bo Derek reappointed to state horse racing board
Bo Derek, the Golden Globe-nominated actress who became a sex symbol after the release of the 1979 movie “10,” has been reappointed to the state racing board by Gov. Jerry Brown.
Derek, who was born Mary Cathleen Collins, was first appointed to the board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008.
Now 57, Derek still takes on the occasional acting role, but has been more active as an advocate for animal rights. In 2011, she testified before a legislative committee in Sacramento to support an effort to ban shark fin soup.
She is the owner of several horses and a line of pet-care products called Bless the Beasts.
Derek’s appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate. Board members receive a $100-per-day stipend to attend board meetings.
