Dodgers edge Rockies, 3-2, in Colorado

KEY MOMENT: Zack Greinke gave up a run in the eighth inning that tied the score, 2-2. As the Dodgers came off the field at the end of the inning, Adrian Gonzalez called on his teammates to score a run that inning. “We hadn’t done much offensively in the back part of the game,” Gonzalez said. “We wanted to see if we could get something going and get Zack a win.” They did. Matt Kemp drew a walk to lead off the ninth inning, advanced to second on a groundout by Scott Van Slyke and scored on a single by Juan Uribe.

ON THE MOUND: Greinke earned his 11th win, which ties him for the most in the National League with the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright. Greinke limited the Rockies to two runs and nine hits over eight innings.

AT THE PLATE: Gonzalez drove in his team-leading 53rd run in the third inning. Uribe collected three hits.

IN THE RECORD BOOK: Greinke walked only two batters, including one intentionally, making this the 37th consecutive game in which the Dodgers starter walked two or fewer batters. That makes this the longest streak in baseball since at least 1900, according to Elias. The previous record of 36 was set by the Minnesota Twins in 2005.

HOME-RUN DERBY: Yasiel Puig hasn’t hit a home run in more than a month but is under consideration for the Home Run Derby, National League captain and Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said. “He’s on the list,” Tulowitzki said. “He’s someone that has a good chance. I’m not going to sit here and say he’s one of the guys I’m going to select, but he’s right up there with the top.” Tulowitzki said he would speak to Puig during this series to gauge his interest.

ROSTER MOVE: Shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena was called up from triple-A Albuquerque and effectively traded places with infielder Carlos Triunfel, who was sent down. The defensively inclined Arruebarrena replaced Hanley Ramirez at shortstop in the eighth inning.
