Taking a breath, looking back on Dodgers’ 4-3 win over Nationals

Among the 3,257 things lost in the Dodgers’ dramatic 4-3 victory over the Nationals Saturday night:

-- Chad Billingsley rebounded from his only bad start, to pitch seven superb innings. He allowed one run on five hits and struck out six while lowering his ERA to 2.64.

--Jerry Hairston Jr. is proving to be so special as a utility player, he’s actually become a quasi-starter. He scored the first run Saturday, is batting .289 and is able to play at least three different positions.

-- Jamey Wright, the spring training non-roster invitee who was the last pitcher to make the team, is proving himself a valuable addition. He picked up the victory Saturday and now has a 2.00 ERA in eight games.

-- OK, actually Josh Lindblom was the last pitcher to make the team, but he was a late injury replacement. Now it’s hard to imagine the bullpen without him. He pitched another scoreless inning Saturday and has a 0.73 ERA in 10 games.

-- Matt Kemp’s game-winning home run in the 10^th inning was his 11^th of the season, giving him a Dodgers record for most homers in April.

-- The Dodgers are now 8-3 in one-run games. No other team has more than six one-run victories.

--A.J. Ellis went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .288 and his on-base percentage to .439.

-- Javy Guerra is going to test Don Mattingly’s patience. In his last three games, Guerra has allowed five runs on nine hits in just two innings. His ERA is up to 6.10.
