Searching and finding some positive Dodgers’ hitting news!
And now for all those who insist I’m much too hard on the Boys in Blue, I bring you an exclusive, positive note on the Dodgers’ offense.
Carl Crawford.
That’s all folks.
Crawford is off to a nice start at the plate. He’s batting .556 (5 of 9) through the Dodgers’ opening three games.
Alas, the rest of the Dodgers are hitting .134.
Mark Ellis (3 of 9) is the only other regular hitting above .250, unless you count slugging Clayton Kershaw (1 of 3), owner of the team’s only home run.
Crawford said his surgically rebuilt elbow would be ready by the season opener, and if his throwing still needs some evolution, early on he has been the leadoff hitter the Dodgers gambled on and brought over in the blockbuster trade for Adrian Gonzalez.
“Carl has a chance to really change us,” said manager Don Mattingly. “He can do some things.”
On Wednesday, each of Crawford’s hits went to a different field.
“He’s starting off the season great, the way we wanted him to,” center-fielder Matt Kemp said. “If he continues to do that and everybody does their job ... I think me, Gonzo, (Luis) Cruz, we all need to get going. Andre (Ethier) and CC have been doing a great job, Mark’s been doing a great job. We just have to get those hits.”
