Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan? Dodgers won’t say
PHOENIX – Of all the questions related to the ownership change the Dodgers were asked Wednesday morning, they had particular trouble answering one.
Who was better: Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan?
Matt Kemp burst out laughing.
From a couple of lockers away, Jerry Hairston Jr. shouted at Kemp: “Tell the truth! Tell the truth!”
Kemp continued smiling.
“Both of them were great athletes, so I’ll keep it at that,” Kemp said.
When Dee Gordon was asked the question, he responded: “You can’t do that to me, man. I can’t go there. He’s my boss now.”
Javy Guerra had a similar reply.
“C’mon,” he said. “I can’t answer that.”
Manager Don Mattingly wouldn’t answer the question.
“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Mattingly said. “I’ll take either one to start a team.”
OK, Magic or Bird?
“I’m from Indiana, bro,” Mattingly said. “Magic’s my nemesis. Got us in the Final Four. He got us when Bird went to Boston. Now, we’re on the same team.”
Andre Ethier offered the most clever and diplomatic response when asked to choose between Johnson and Jordan.
“M.J.,” he said.
