Lakers summer leaguer Lazar Hayward’s basketball pupil: Nicole Richie

In July, free-agent forward Lazar Hayward played 14 minutes a game for the Lakers’ summer league squad in Las Vegas.

A month later he’s featured in the most recent episode of “#Candidly Nicole,” an AOL original Web-based series starring fashion designer, actress and author Nicole Richie.

Hayward, a three-year veteran who last played with the Minnesota Timberwolves, is charged with teaching Richie how to play basketball, starting with the very basics.

“What’s the rim?” asked Richie at the start of their session.

The 6-foot-6 Hayward shows Richie how to shoot, cross over and even taunt after a blocked shot.

“Do you know what a cross-over is? It’s like dancing,” asked Hayward.

“It’s so Broadway,” said Richie.

The two bond over conversation, Hayward giving insight into how difficult it can be to a low-minute reserve in the NBA.

“Do the games feel as long to you as they do to me?” asked Richie.

“I think if you’re sitting on the bench, yes,” answered Hayward. “Probably longer.”

The Lakers have already signed summer league forward Elias Harris to a contract. The team has also linked to Marcus Landry.

It’s unclear if Hayward will transition from Lakers summer leaguer to camp invite.
