Pau Gasol, Madrid’s pitch to host 2020 Olympics edged by Tokyo
On Saturday, the International Olympic Committee made its choice for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The final three cities were Istanbul; Madrid, Spain; and Tokyo.
Lakers center-forward Pau Gasol had been helping Spain’s bid committee and made the trip to Buenos Aires for the International Olympic Committee’s vote.
The winner was made known via Twitter.

Gasol took to Twitter as well.

Gasol was hopeful, heading into his country’s presentation as an ambassador for Spain.

Both Madrid and Istanbul lost out to Tokyo.

Gasol has spent much of the summer recovering from medical procedures on both knees. The Lakers begin training camp at the end of the month.
