The bottom line seems to be that he really doesn’t know at this point. The star wide receiver and the Detroit Lions released a brief joint statement Wednesday basically saying just that.

Johnson said in the statement: “Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future. I would expect to have a decision regarding this matter in the not-too-distant future.”

The Lions’ part of the statement said: “We obviously have profound respect for Calvin and certainly understand and appreciate his decision to give proper thought and consideration to his football future.”

Johnson made five straight Pro Bowls from 2010-14, setting a single-season league record with 1,964 receiving yards in 2012. But he’s been hampered by injuries of late, playing the second half of this season with an ankle sprain.
