LeBron James’ Instagram video of police escort prompts investigation

LeBron James may be finding out that while it’s good to be king, bragging about the perks you receive might not be the best idea.

The Miami Heat superstar posted a video on Instagram from inside a car following a police escort on the wrong side of the road to Sun Life Stadium for Friday night’s Justin Timberlake/Jay Z concert.

He also tweeted a link to the video along with some comments that made him look a bit like a clueless celebrity loving his privileged life:

They treat us so well! Needed it cause traffic was nuts!! https://t.co/UIWRZE2BVQ — LeBron James (@KingJames) August 17, 2013

Really? Only you needed it? Traffic was nuts only for you? Or are you just more important than everyone else with a ticket to the show?

Quite a few folks on Twitter weren’t happy about James’ apparent special treatment. Neither was the Miami-Dade Police Department, which wouldn’t have even known about it if it weren’t for the four-time NBA MVP’s video.

“It has been brought to our attention that a video was posted on the Internet by LeBron James ... where it shows him being escorted onto the property of Sunlife Stadium for a concert on Friday,” the department said in a statement.

“Upon further investigation, it has been confirmed that the Miami-Dade Police Department did facilitate Mr. James from one intersection to another, in the adjacent area of the stadium. This was not a scheduled escort and although all safety precautions were taken, the department has identified these actions as a violation of departmental policy. The Miami-Dade Police Department will continue to look into the matter.”

Listen, King James, you may be the best basketball player on the planet right now, but in that particular situation -- and pretty much any other one that doesn’t involve putting a round ball through a hoop -- you’re just a regular guy.

Now, wait your turn like the rest of us.
