Driver who ran red light dies in Atwater Village crash, police say
A 22-year-old man died early Sunday in Atwater Village after running a red light and crashing into a pickup truck, police said.
The man, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was taken to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center for treatment, police said.
Their 1991 Acura Integra went through the red light on Glendale Boulevard at Revere Street and collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck about 6:49 a.m., LAPD Sgt. Kevin Custard said.
“Witnesses stopped at the red light said he went right past them,” Custard said. The man suffered major trauma, he said. The driver of the Dodge was also taken to a hospital to be checked out.
