Two men were shot to death in broad daylight on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Just after 12:12 p.m., a youth or young man walked up to two men, described as being in their late 30s or early 40s, shot them both and ran away, said Sgt. William Carty of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division.

The shooting occurred on the south side of the street along a stretch of Century Boulevard lined with single-family homes.

Detectives are investigating and don’t yet have a motive for the killings, Carty said.

The area around Wednesday’s shooting in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood has seen a substantial amount of violence in recent years.

There have been 13 homicides within a mile of the killings in the past 12 months. There were 19 homicides within a mile of the slayings in 2013, according to the Homicide Report.
