Student uses pencil to repeatedly stab Santa Rosa teacher, police say

A 16-year-old Santa Rosa high school student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stabbing a teacher repeatedly with a pencil, sending him to the hospital, police said.

The teacher, who was not identified, was treated for stab wounds to his head, neck and arm, according to the Santa Rose Police Department. The injuries were not considered life-threatening, police added.

The suspect, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was taken into custody without incident after police tracked him to the home of a relative, according to police.

The incident occurred in at a Midrose High School classroom during lunch break, police said. According to witnesses, the suspect attacked the teacher with a pencil, stabbing him multiple times before another student intervened, police said.

The motive for the attack was unclear.

As other students and teachers came to the victim’s aid, the attacker fled. The school was temporarily locked down while police searched for the student.

The student has not yet been charged with a crime.
