UC San Diego student slashed in knife attack on campus
SAN DIEGO — A male student at UC San Diego was slashed in the neck Monday night in an unprovoked attack by what witnesses described as a knife-wielding transient, authorities said.
Campus police and San Diego police were scouring the La Jolla campus on foot and by helicopter after the attack, which occured about 7 p.m. near Center Hall.The suspect was described as a 5-foot-4, thin white male in his 50s with a bushy beard.
The student’s injuries were described as non-life threatening. The attacker fled after the incident.
Authorities sent out a warning by text, email and Web alert. The campus remained open as students continued to study for finals, which begin next week.
