The shooting occurred about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday near Everett Avenue and East 58th Street in Maywood. Deputies were responding to a vandalism call in the area when they confronted a man and woman.

Authorities say the 31-year-old man acted “suspiciously and reached for his waistband, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.”
