Riverside teen shoots, kills father inside family home, police say
A 17-year-old Riverside boy is in jail Tuesday after police say he shot his father to death in the family’s home.
The boy’s mother called 911 about 4:20 p.m. to report that her son had shot her husband in their home in the 8400 block of Sunshine Lane, authorities said.
Officers who arrived at the scene found the boy’s father dead inside the home from multiple gunshot wounds. The boy was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered at the scene, said Riverside police Lt. Dan Hoxmeier.
Police were interviewing family members who were home at the time of the shooting to try to determine a motive, Hoxmeier added.
The boy, whose name hasn’t been released because of his age, was booked and taken to Riverside County juvenile hall. The Riverside County coroner had not released the identity of the victim Tuesday morning.
